A letter arrived in e-Boks and I do not understand what it is
In short

Steps
Open the letter wherever suits you
There is one mailbox, but four windows into it: the borger.dk site, the Digital Post app, e-Boks and mit.dk. What you do in one shows up in all of them.
There is only one difference: e-Boks and mit.dk hold private letters as well as state ones — from your bank, your insurer, your pension fund. On borger.dk you will not find those.

Look at who the sender is
Half the answer is already in the "from" line. Most often it is one of four:
A decision letter, line by line →Find the date and the word "frist"
Before you translate the whole letter, find three things in it: the date at the top, the word frist (deadline) and any number with a month next to it. That is what tells you how urgent it is.
Translate it — with the camera, not by hand
The fastest way: open the letter on a computer, point your phone camera at the screen in Google Translate ("Camera" mode / Google Lens) — and read it in Ukrainian right over the text.
If the letter is a PDF, copy the text and paste it into a translator: that is more accurate than a photo.

Turn on notifications so you do not miss the next one
This is exactly where people miss deadlines: the letter arrived and nobody told them. You set this up once.
Add both an email and a phone number — the SMS arrives more reliably.
Cannot manage on your own — give access, not your MitID
If you ask someone close to you for help, never hand them your [[mitid|MitID]] — it is forbidden and it is dangerous. Digital Post has official access for another person instead: Menu → Læse- og skriveadgang → Giv andre adgang, then that person's first name, surname and CPR.
That access lets them read and even reply, but it does not replace a power of attorney (fuldmagt) and does not give the right to decide for you.

Danish words you will see
- Digital Post
- Official electronic post from the state. Letters in it are legally binding.
- e-Boks
- The app many people use to read their Digital Post. It is a window onto your post, not the post itself.
- MitID
- The digital signature you use to log in to public services and your bank.
- CPR-nummer
- Your personal registration number. You need it for almost everything.
- SIRI
- The agency that issues and extends residence permits. It writes to you in Digital Post.
- Udbetaling Danmark
- The state body that pays housing support, child benefit and pensions. It is not the kommune.
Common mistakes
- Reading only e-Boks and never seeing the state letters. In e-Boks, state post only shows up if you agreed to it. Not seeing letters from SKAT — check borger.dk.
- Turning notifications off, or never setting them up. Without them nobody warns you about a letter, and the deadline runs anyway.
- Thinking the letter "does not count" until you have understood it. It counts from the date on the letter. "I did not know Danish" is not an argument for an authority.
- Giving your MitID to someone. There is a legal way — læseadgang. You must not hand over MitID, not even to a relative.
- Getting a fritagelse and thinking the letters will stop. Some post arrives digitally anyway, and the exemption does not cover private letters in e-Boks.
