- 1Who is writing
The decision to extend under is taken by Udlændingestyrelsen. is the neighbouring agency; it deals with work and study. Both write to you in .
- 2Afgørelse means a decision
The word afgørelse means the decision has already been taken, not that something is expected from you. It is not a request and not an invitation.
- 3The date it has been extended to
This date is yours, and it matters more than any date from the news or from somebody else's letter. Write it down and set a reminder a few months before it.
- 4There is nothing you have to submit
The key phrase in the whole letter. Extension under Særloven happens automatically, without any application from you. If someone offers to "arrange the extension" for you, that is an invented service.
- 5The right to work
A permit under Særloven is a residence permit and a work permit at the same time. While your case is being processed, you stay in Denmark with the same rights as before.
- 6The new card comes by post
The card is sent by ordinary post, usually within a few weeks. It is not delivered against a signature and is not handed out at an office.
- 7Biometrics
With an automatic extension, your photo and fingerprints are not taken again — they are used from your earlier case. The exception: children who were under 6 last time.

What to do if a number looks wrong
